Jobs You Can Get With No Experience in South Africa
Entry-level roles that offer training on the job, plus tips for getting hired when you are just starting out.
Everyone starts somewhere. Many employers in South Africa hire people with no formal work experience and train them on the job — especially when they show reliability and willingness to learn.
Roles that often require no experience
- Call centre agent — usually requires Matric and good communication skills; training is provided.
- General worker — manual work in construction, manufacturing or facilities.
- Warehouse assistant / picker and packer — common in logistics and retail distribution centres.
- Cashier and retail assistant — especially part-time and seasonal work.
- Data capturer — often on contract, requiring basic computer skills.
- Merchandiser — packing shelves and setting up promotions in stores.
- Security officer — requires PSIRA registration, which involves a short training course.
- Learnerships — designed for people without experience and come with a stipend.
How to get hired without experience
- Write a skills-based CV. Focus on what you can do: languages, computer skills, a driver’s licence, and responsibilities you have taken on at school, church or in your community.
- Get a quick certification. Short courses — computer literacy, first aid, forklift operation or PSIRA — can make a big difference.
- Apply consistently. Set aside time every day and keep track of applications.
- Be reachable. Keep your phone on and check messages and emails, including spam folders.
